A cleanup that fades within a month is the usual result when 5S is treated as housekeeping. The method only pays off when Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain are run as a system with owners and audit routines behind them.
Mastering 5S Methodology is built around that distinction. Participants learn why clutter hides the eight wastes, how to run a red-tag campaign, how to design point-of-use storage and shadow boards, and which leadership behaviors stop a site sliding back to its old state.
The program is delivered as 30 hours of self-paced online learning on the Blue Ocean learning platform, available on web and mobile, which suits production teams that study between shifts. A corporate license enrolls a cohort, and the administrator dashboard shows enrollment, progress and completion for each person.
Digital study resources, templates for red tags, checklists and audit sheets, plus knowledge checks and practice assessments, sit inside the modules. Participants who complete the program earn a digital, verifiable MBE credential.
Supervisors and team leaders carry most of the weight in a 5S rollout, because they decide every day whether a standard is enforced or ignored, so they are the first group most companies enroll. Operations professionals who own the rollout plan learn how to sequence the pillars across a site and how to measure the result.
Quality practitioners use the method to remove the clutter that hides defects and contamination. Manufacturing personnel apply it at the workstation, while office staff adapt the same logic to files, shared drives and front-desk areas. Mixed cohorts drawn from production and administration tend to produce the most consistent site-wide standards.
Eighteen modules run from context to a transformation plan. Modules one to three explain the Toyota lineage of 5S, the five pillars and why disorganization is expensive. Modules four to eight take one pillar at a time: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain.
Modules nine to twelve build the supporting system: the visual workplace, red-tag campaigns and Kaizen events, audits and scorecards, and a 30-60-90 day rollout roadmap. Modules thirteen to fifteen add case studies, change leadership and non-manufacturing settings. Module sixteen links 5S to Lean, Kaizen and Six Sigma, seventeen covers digital 5S, and the eighteenth is a capstone where participants design their own transformation.
Yes. Module two sets out how 5S applies in factory, office and service settings, and modules thirteen and fifteen go deeper with cases from hospitals, labs, retail, field service and digital 5S for files, inboxes and shared drives. The logic is the same wherever people lose time looking for things, and the eight wastes appear in paperwork as readily as on a line.
Because most stop after Sort, Set in Order and Shine, which are visible and satisfying, and never build the fourth and fifth pillars. Modules seven and eight are devoted to exactly that: turning the first three into written standards with named owners, then the psychology of discipline, leadership behaviors and recognition that move a team from compliance to habit. Module eleven adds the audits and scorecards that keep standards measured.
A red-tag campaign is a structured sweep in which questionable items are tagged, moved to a holding area and dispositioned under agreed rules. It appears first in module four as the core Sort technique and returns in module ten as a full campaign with a holding area, disposition rules and a Kaizen event built around it. Participants finish able to plan and lead one.
Through Shine. Module six reframes cleaning as inspection: when operators clean to a routine they notice leaks, loose guards, worn parts and contamination sources before those become stoppages or injuries. The module links that practice to total productive maintenance, so a quality head or maintenance manager can see 5S as the front end of reliability rather than a cosmetic exercise.
There are 30 hours of self-paced content on the Blue Ocean learning platform, studied on web or mobile at whatever pace the shift pattern allows. Your administrator sees enrollment, progress and completion for the whole cohort on one dashboard, which makes it easy to pair module completion with the actual pillar rollout on the floor.
Each person who completes all eighteen modules together with the knowledge checks and practice assessments is awarded a digital, verifiable MBE credential under the Mastering Business Excellence series from Blue Ocean Corporation. The credential can be shared with an employer or professional network, and the organization retains the completion record on its administrator dashboard.

Your organization licenses seats for a cohort or a whole team. Participants study the self-paced modules on the Blue Ocean learning platform, on web or mobile, and your administrator follows enrollment, progress and completion on a dashboard.
Yes. A pilot cohort in one department is a practical first step. Use the corporate license form, and a program advisor will map the relevant courses and license options to your teams.
Ask about a pilot cohort for one production area, or request a corporate license to roll Mastering 5S Methodology out across every site.
